If you have rooms to rent that are just not moving, this post is for you. Here are some tips and tricks to help you to rent them out successfully. Most are easy to implement and not at all time consuming.
Advertise, advertise, advertise
The first step is to increase your advertising efforts. If, in the past, you have not had any problems finding tenants the tendency is to advertise in the same places that you always do.
This is fine when it works and you get plenty of interest. Should you find yourself struggling take a look at where you are advertising and change things around a bit and advertise in some different places. Don’t forget the old-fashioned approach, people of a certain generation, still look in the free papers and shop windows when they need somewhere new to live.
Don’t forget word of mouth
Another avenue many people forget is word of mouth. You can do it the modern way by tweeting friends, previous tenants and advertising on social media sites like Facebook, but also tell people you meet about the room you have to rent. Your local newsagent, takeaway staff and others you know in passing may well know someone who needs a room or mention it to anyone who is talking about moving to the area. You never know.
Make the room more attractive
Once you have the word out you need to make sure that you make the room as attractive as possible. It is a pain to give a place a lick of paint and a new rug, but it makes a huge difference.
For bigger rooms or a house in which you have several rooms for rent home stagers can really help. They will come in take a look around and supply you with furniture and soft furnishings to give your accommodation a modern, fresh look and make the best use of the space.
